09/15/04: Ever wonder about the possible career paths of today's young adults? A recent report on this year's Miss America contestants reveals that most of them will go into the medical and allied fields or law, teaching and entertainment. What is at the bottom of the list? Business-related careers had a total of one person listing it as her sole career ambition. This honor goes to Miss New Hampshire who actually has the temerity to state that she wants to be a CEO of an entertainment company. Not one contestant listed real estate as a career path. Now this could all be window dressing to impress the judges. However, in an industry that includes former Heisman Trophy winners, NBA and Major League Baseball players and others on its payrolls, there is no reason to be bashful about recruiting into other areas. Real estate is as noble a profession as any other and has created millions of homes and jobs and continues to do so. Now as far as Miss Rhode Island is concerned, she may be in need of some career counseling. Her ambition is to "manage an internal audit department."
