Although the city council has approved a rezoning and annexation request on one of the largest commercial-residential ventures ever attempted in this rural northeast Georgia city, elected officials are scheduling another formal vote on the project Oct. 5. Gainesville is 40 miles northeast of Downtown Atlanta.
The Laniers already have offered to donate 17 acres, plus an option to purchase an additional 2.59 acres, to the Gainesville school system for the construction of a new school, as GlobeSt.com previously reported. The 17 acres have an estimated market value of about $2 million, area industrial brokers familiar with this suburban submarket tell GlobeSt.com.
Mundy Mill has been approved for 578 townhomes, 460 apartments, 1,148 single-family residences, 687,000 sf of office space and 510,000 sf of retail, according to preliminary development plans filed with the city.
