On the real estate scene, King's most visible achievement was his Centergy undertaking adjacent to the Tech campus at Technology Square. His joint-venture partner is Gateway Development Services Inc. The University Financing Foundation Inc., a nonprofit Kennesaw-based group affiliated with Georgia Tech, owns Centergy One.
Not even six months old in March of this year, King's team signed the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism to a 30,000-sf lease for an estimated 10 years at an estimated effective rent of $6 million at the 210,000-sf Technology Square Research Building, as GlobeSt.com previously reported.
The Technology Square complex at Fifth and West Peachtree streets is a $256-million investment being developed on a site that was formerly dotted with vacant lots and run-down warehouse structures. Also planning to relocate to the building is MEAG Power Co., Georgia Power and Georgia EMC which also provides electricity throughout Georgia.
