Battle Creek-based Kellogg is awarding the conservancy $3 million toward its drive to raise $25 million in endowment funds for the Detroit RiverWalk, a three-mile pathway to be built from east of the Renaissance Center to the MacArthur Bridge at Belle Isle, with construction to start early next year. Half of the Riverwalk is anticipated to be completed by end of 2005 and the entire walkway open by end of 2006. Details of plans for the west riverfront, from the Renaissance Center to the Ambassador bridge, have not yet been made public.
Kellogg has also given the Conservancy $1.07 million to support ongoing operations and increase its organizational capacity. The Conservancy says it has raised more than $73.8 million of its $75 million goal, including $50 million already given or pledged by the Troy-based KresgeFoundation.
