"New York Life is proud to join the Westchester business community," said Sy Sternberg, chairman and chief executive officer of New York Life at the ribbon cutting ceremony. "This campus plays a vital role for our company and it offers our employees a wide array of both personal and professional benefits that will allow them to continue the preeminent service to which our clients are accustomed."
New York Life president Frederick J. Sievert added, "Hundreds of employees were involved in bringing this project to fruition and the company is stronger for their efforts. We are confident that this additional campus will directly contribute to our company's future success."
New York Life purchased the Mount Pleasant Corporate Center from the Gale Co. in April 2003 for $38 million. The Westchester County Industrial Development Agency that year granted New York Life approximately $1.7 million in sales tax exemptions in connection with the deal. The Mount Pleasant Corporate Center located on Rockwood Road in Sleepy Hollow, was previously owned by IBM, which vacated the property in the 1990s.
Now that the renovations to the property are complete, the facility features a redesigned employee dining room on the first floor, an on-site back-up childcare center, a fully functioning Employees' Health Department that includes an emergency room and a fitness center. At the ribbon cutting, New York Life announced it had awarded grants totaling $65,000 to five Westchester nonprofit agencies that support programs geared for children.
