MARLBORO TWP., NJ-Home Depot has signed a lease for 114,000 sf at Cambridge Square here. The 233,000-sf shopping center is owned by Garden Commercial Properties, a subsidiary of Garden Homes of Short Hills, NJ.
The home improvement chain will take over an anchor position that formerly housed a Kmart department store, according to Scott Loventhal, director of development for Garden Commercial Properties. Home Depot joins a tenant roster that includes a Shop-Rite supermarket, Blockbuster Video and TGI Friday's.
"Home Depot was searching for an established retail location that offered space in which they could introduce one of their popular 'do-it-yourself' retail stores," Loventhal says. "The anchor building vacated by Kmart at Cambridge Square was the perfect opportunity.
"Here, they were able to modify the existing structure," he continues. "They were able to reconfigure the design and can build a customized facility that will meet their specific needs and requirements." Cambridge Square is situated at a high-volume location on Route 9 in northern Monmouth County, near the Garden State Parkway.
