Last year alone at First Industrial, O'Briant acquired $55 million in properties. He also served as the REIT's vice president of development services for Georgia and the Carolinas, responsible for build-to-suits, speculative and fee development and overseeing construction services. O'Briant has also worked for South Corp., Istar Financial Inc. and Metlife.

Duke Realty's Fessler is confident O'Briant will deliver for the company. "Sam brings extensive knowledge of the Atlanta market, a proven development and acquisition track record and outstanding leadership skills," Fessler says. "Throughout his career, Sam has demonstrated the ability to successfully win new customers and deliver exceptional service to existing clients."

Duke's portfolio in metro Atlanta includes 15 million sf of office, industrial and retail real estate. The company controls more than 900 acres of undeveloped land for future development and employs 125 real estate professionals in the greater Orlando market. The firm owns, manages or has under development more than 112 million sf of industrial, office and retail properties in 14 major US cities. The company also controls 4,600 acres of undeveloped land that can support about 69 million sf of future development.
