11/03/04: The presidential election is no longer undecided. The nation woke up after Election Day to the expectation that a long fight was in the offing--possibly involving courts--in a painful replay of the 2000 race. That expectation was cut short with a late-morning phone call to President Bush by Senator Kerry. With the Great Diversion of campaigning out of the way, we also awoke to the same old national problems that existed a year ago. According to RealShare Dallas keynote speaker Ross Perot, Jr.--a President Bush supporter--there are many challenges the President is going to face. Perot serves as chairman of real estate concern Hillwood Development as well as executive chairman of the board for technology-based business - solutions provider Perot Systems. No stranger to national politics, he mentioned that, aside from the war in Iraq and the war on terror, the economy is the single most daunting challenge. We're still not at full recovery mode, and this "soft patch" that has been hanging over us is now four months old. It's great to have the contentious race over. It won't be so great if it means only a return to business as usual. With a winner chosen, it is hoped that we can move ahead on a straighter path toward a solution to our multitude of challenges.
