Retailers Joanne ETC, PetCo and Mobile2Mobile are already lined up to be added to the center. "We've secured some major tenants to revitalize this corner, and we look forward to completing the lineup as construction continues in the next few months," says Daniel Stern, co-partner at Lormax Stern Development Co.
The Gratiot Crossing is anchored by a Kmart store, which first opened on that location in 1979. In January of this year, that Kmart store was listed as a store that would be closed by the chain as part of its bankruptcy proceedings. Kmart and Redico/Lormax Stern were able to work out a new lease arrangement and the store remained open. Kmart came out of bankruptcy in the spring.
The 23 Mile and Gratiot intersection is also home to Kohl's and Art Van stores, both of which opened in nearby shopping centers in the second half of 2003. Also at the intersection, in other shopping centers are major retailers Meijer's, Target and Home Depot, along with dozens of smaller stores. In the same area, the Chesterfield Crossing Cinema is nearly complete with an expansion project.
The Kmart store at the Gratiot Crossing is expected to be updated as part of the construction project. Redico and Lormax Stern are both based in Southfield.
