The building, constructed in 1970-71, was vacated a few years ago when its operation was relocated to the renovated Warren Community Center about two miles away. Clinton Township resident Giulio Zaccagnini was one of three bidders on the building and the 1.1-acre parcel east of Ryan Road. His winning bid is conditional upon the city rezoning the property from single-family residential to office use.
Zaccagnini, who owns steel and woodworking companies, could renovate the building for medical or other possible office-type businesses. A public hearing on that rezoning is slated for Dec. 14. Mayor Mark Steenbergh and the city's planning commission have already recommended the land change be approved.
An independent appraiser reported the former library building is worth approximately $137,000 if the property zoning remained residential, or $440,347 if it was rezoned to office.
