Leesburg city commissioners approved the rezoning request for the land, despite some community opposition. Residents fear the height of the project is out of place in an area where single-story homes are the norm. City officials and staffers, however, tell GlobeSt.com the project is expected to be a magnet for future growth in and around Leesburg.

The condos will sell for $200,000 to $400,000 in a single-story market where the median price has been $170,000, area real estate agents tell GlobeSt.com.

Royal Palm Homes has built a comparable condo community in Casselberry, an Orlando suburb, and has another condo venture, the 18-story Sanctuary, under construction in Orlando at East Church Street and Eola Drive.
