The 97,000-sf Sierra Suites will be a seven-story, extended stay property that will occupy a site at the 18-acre entertainment center on the waterfront Downtown. DDR describes it as an upscale hotel that will rise to the east of the Pike's parking garage at 285 Bay St. Besides the 140 suites, it will feature meeting facilities and public areas, a roof-top swimming pool and a fitness center. The hotel is scheduled to open by summer 2006 and will become part of a nationwide chain of 33 hotels operated by Wichita, KS-based LodgeWorks. The Kansas company operates under the names Sierra Suites, Summerfield Suites and Hawthorn Suites.The 369,000 sf of the Pike at Rainbow Harbor comprises retail businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues including PF Chang's China Bistro, Auld Dubliner, Big Dippers, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Gladstone's 4 Fish, California Pizza Kitchen, a 14-screen Cinemark Theater with all-stadium seating. Other attractions include GameWorks, which features a 10-lane bowling alley and JAX Grill, as well as numerous other eateries and retail shops, plus Club the Venue, an Art Deco-themed nightclub on the waterfront.The Pike project includes a pedestrian bridge over Shoreline Drive reminiscent of the Cyclone Racer wooden roller coaster that operated in the city's historic Pike amusement zone, a turn-of-the-(20th) century carousel with hand-carved horses and a Ferris wheel amusement ride, which are both scheduled to open in December.
