11/17/04:The "I" word came back into play this week with reports that Wall Street is looking at the largest PPI increase since 1990. This means that the Fed will probably continue to raise rates in the incremental way we've seen all year. Now that oil prices are beginning to recede, some of the inflationary pressures the economy has been under will most likely recede also. However, we won't feel these for another three to six months. The good news is that real estate transaction velocity will continue unaffected. Bruce Mosler, C&W's president and CEO elect, the keynote speaker at last week's RealShare Orange County, remarked that the current pace of sales transactions will continue in 2005, even if there is an increase of 100 to 125 basis points in interest rates. This is very good news. It's rare when real estate can lead the recovery rather than trail it.
