McKINNEY, TX-A Texas franchisee for the 100-location McAlister's Corp. has tapped his second deli site in Dallas/Fort Worth, striking a five-year lease for 4,200 sf to become the largest tenant in an under-construction retail building in McKinney. The franchisee is searching for three more sites in North Texas for a Ridgeland, MS-based chain pushing a coast-to-coast expansion.

The doors will swing open on McAlister's Deli in March at the El Dorado Park Shopping Center, Andrew Beckman, co-managing partner of Glacier Commercial Realty LP in Dallas, tells GlobeSt.com about the latest plan of franchisee, Chander Buie of Longview. The anchor tenant is taking "the elbow" in a 14,000-sf ell-shaped center rising at 2107 El Dorado Parkway, owned by El Dorado Properties LP of McKinney, which was represented by Peggy Broughton with Craig International in the lease negotiations.

Beckman says at least two more McAlister's Deli shops will open in 2005. The site search, he adds, is focused in Lewisville, Flower Mound and Denton. The franchisee opened his first Dallas/Fort Worth-area restaurant in August in a 3,800-sf space in the Billingsley Co.'s International Business Park in Carrollton.

Beckman says Buie has been scouring North Texas for the last eight months for inline and freestanding locations for the sit-down deli concept. McAlister's Corp. is pushing an expansion course much like its footprint in the Southeast, predominately college towns and their nearby suburban pockets. At last count, there were more than 100 deli locations in 17 states in the push to the west and north.
