"We made a decision that our corporate office should reflect McStain's green building philosophy," says Eric Wittenberg, president and chief executive officer of McStain Neighborhoods. "Our company's mission to build a better world starts right at our own front door."

The building's environmentally friendly amenities include open floor plans, occupancy sensors and daylight controls, window shades to minimize glare, state-of-the-art cooling systems, reused building materials in construction, wall coverings and shelving units constructed from recycled products and stormwater detention ponds. Furnishings were selected from companies that have an environmental commitment to advanced recycling and sustainable manufacturing processes.

McStain also encourages non-automobile means of transportation by providing ample bike storage and loaner "green bikes" for errands. If an automobile is required, McStain owns a hybrid-gas electric Toyota Prius.
