ANAHEIM, CA-Windstar Communities of San Diego has kicked off the first mixed-use project to be built in the Platinum Triangle area around Anaheim Stadium, its 390-unit Stadium Lofts, which will include 8,100 sf of restaurant space and 9,817 sf of retail and clubhouse space. The project, one of the largest loft developments under way in Southern California, will take shape at Katella Avenue and State College Boulevard on part of an 820-acre tract that the City of Anaheim envisions for up to 9,175 housing units, 5 million sf of office space and more than 2 million sf of commercial uses. The lofts are slated for completion in mid 2006 and will feature what the developers describe as "prairie-style architecture inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright." Designed by Meeks & Partners of Newport Beach, it is being built for Windstar by the Irvine office of Boston-based Suffolk Construction and will include an 852-space parking structure.Besides Anaheim Stadium, the Platinum Triangle area is already home to a MetroLink Station, Arrowhead Pond and the Grove Theatre, which is next to the Stadium Lofts site. The lofts development is one of a number of such projects that Anaheim and other Southern California cities are counting on as catalysts to developing clusters of housing and shopping, offices and other projects to create more of a sense of community and bring life back into the cities. The Platinum Triangle area has been designated as a center of such development by the City of Anaheim in its new general plan, approved by the city council. The Stadium Lofts project is the first development approved for the 820-acre site under the new general plan.
