BEAVERTON, OR-A vacant Copeland Lumber yard here will become a new retail location for Standard TV & Appliance if the Portland-based chain's development application is approved. The new store would have 27,000 sf of display area and focus on high-end products. The 2.2-acre property is located on Southwest Hall Boulevard at Colony Lane, just east of Cedar Hills Boulevard. If the application process goes smoothly, demolition of the existing structures on the site will begin in January and the new store could open as soon as October.Designed to compete against the likes of Sears, the new store is slated to include 16 working kitchens showcasing appliances ranging in price from $1,000 to $20,000. The store also will sell mattresses and home electronics, such as plasma televisions. If built, the project will sit nearby Cedar Hills Crossing, the recently redeveloped Beaverton Mall, and across the street from Hall Street Grill. As well, New Seasons Market has announced it will open a grocery store near the site in 2006. Copeland owners Helen Jo and Bill Whitsell announced plans to sell the property in 1999. They closed the lumber yard one year later. Standard TV closed on the property in February.Regardless of the potential new store, Standard plans to keep open its existing Beaverton location just east of Oregon 217 on Southwest Canyon Road. The smaller store may be converted into a discount center, according to published reports.
