PITTSFORD, NY-The Vitamin Shoppe, a national retailer of vitamins and nutritional supplements, has signed leases for new stores here and in New Hartford, according to GVA Williams of Connecticut, which brokered the deals.
GVA Williams, the exclusive agent for the Vitamin Shoppe in Connecticut, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley and all of upstate New York, says the retailer is expanding rapidly and looking to open new stores in the Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, Binghamton and Ithaca markets.
The Vitamin Shoppe, which has 230 stores nationwide, leased a 3,500-sf space at 3240 Monroe Blvd. in this suburb of Rochester. Property owner Benderson Development's asking rent was $45 per sf, GVA Williams officials say. The store will join woman's clothing store Chico's and menswear retailer Jos A. Bank in the retail center, known as Pittsford Square. The space was formerly occupied by Zany Brainy, a national children's multimedia retail chain. The store is currently being built out and is slated to open soon.
"Pittsford is one of the most affluent suburban markets in Rochester," says Scott Lifschultz, executive vice president for GVA Williams of Connecticut. "We were able to penetrate this market with one of the best visible end-cap locations directly across from Barnes & Noble."
The company will open a 3,680-sf store, located at 4610 Commercial Dr., in New Hartford, a suburb of Utica. Formerly Schuss Ski & Bike, the freestanding building is located just outside one entrance to the Sangertown Square Mall.
"A free-standing building outside a regional mall on the main retail corridor is the ideal piece of real estate for the Vitamin Shoppe," Lifschultz says. "Visibility, signage and access are the keys to their success."
