Clark Construction Group LLC is at the helm, spearheading construction under the guidance of CarrAmerica Urban Development LLC, which is acting as the property owners' representative. BAC's segment of the facility is expected to cost $61 million, while the Shakespeare Theatre will spend $77.9 million to complete the Harman Center.

With the MCI Center located a stone's throw away and the National Mall just blocks off, 620 F St. will rise up in the midst of a burgeoning area that is on its way to becoming a live-work-play destination. "The Shakespeare Theatre and BAC," says CarrAmerica president Robert O. Carr, "are together making an enormous contribution to the quality of life in the Pennsylvania Quarter neighborhood."

Designed by local architectural firm SmithGroup, BAC's portion of the building will consist of class A office space highlighted by a glass winter garden entry. The theatre's segment, designed by Toronto's Diamond & Schmitt, is more involved. It will include the 7,500-sf, 800-seat Sidney Harman Hall, a 2,000-sf rehearsal hall, dressing rooms spanning 2,000 sf and 1,200 sf of administrative office space.

The theater is on schedule to open its doors in early 2007. BAC's new offices will be ready for occupancy in December 2006, shortly after which the union organization will relocate from its current digs at 1776 I St. NW.
