Although he tells GlobeSt.com he doesn't keep score, he estimates his aggregate transactional volume over a 25-year career is about $400 million. Many of Johnson's deals are on the small side, he says, "but they all count." He began his real estate career immediately after receiving his MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1975.
In the Southwest, Johnson worked for several large firms including Balcor/American Express and Equity Office Group, the acquisition arm of Chicago entrepreneur Sam Zell. He moved to Atlanta in 1980 to head up an international joint venture between Rubhoff and a British chartered surveyor. Johnson entered the brokerage side of the business in 1987 with Bullock Mannelly Partners in Atlanta.
Karen Dick, executive vice president of locally based Ackerman & Co. and the 2003 Atlanta Commercial Realtor of the Year, says Johnson's leadership in various board positions "has raised the bar each time as far as meeting and exceeding his committee's goal and performance levels."
