SACHSE, TX-As talks head into final rounds for three more locations, the Corpus Christi, TX-based Whatburger Inc.'s construction crew is preparing to go vertical on a 3,500-sf, corporate-owned location on close to an acre in the northeast sector. The project's all-in cost is estimated at $2 million.
W. Thurston Witt Jr. with United Commercial Realty/ChainLinks in Dallas tells GlobeSt.com that the fast-food restaurant, the second one to break ground in a month, will deliver in 60 to 90 days. The 41,000-sf pad site is situated in front of the 225,000-sf Oak Grove Plaza, a Kroger Signature store-anchored development of the Woodmont Co. Witt says talks began nearly 18 months ago for a site that was flashing on the chain's radar screen because it's close to Garland's Firewheel Mall, an under-construction development of the Indianapolis-headquartered Simon Property Group. The shopping center sits on the hard corner of Texas 78 and Murphy Road, a retail meeting point for residents of Sachse, Wylie and Murphy.
Witt, who's negotiating for three more metroplex locations for the 600-location restaurant chain, says ground broke about a month ago on a pad site at the corner of Frankford Road and Marsh Lane in Carrollton. The 3,500-sf, under-construction restaurant also is corporate owned.
Witt and UCR's Darrell Hernandez are Whataburger's brokers in Dallas/Fort Worth. The Woodmont Co. had broker, Collin Lasater, handle its negotiations for the Sachse pad site sale.
