Attorneys Karen P. Kondell, formerly a partner at Steel Hector, and Lorenzo Moll Parron come along with Berke, and all join Akerman as shareholders in its local real estate practice group. Berke and Kondell bring more than 35 years of legal experience, most recently representing developers of shopping centers and multifamily rentals for condominium conversion.

"Developers are finding it increasingly difficult to launch new construction projects in South Florida due to the scarcity of land here," Berke says. "This current situation is fueling the red-hot condo conversion market." He alludes to Akerman's network of eight Florida offices, which, he says, "enables us to assist our developer clients with additional opportunities in target growth markets, such as north and west Florida."

Berke and Kondell have practiced together since 1976, beginning at locally based Fromberg, Fromberg and Roth, and later forming their own firm, which since merged with others. The duo joined Steel Hector in 2002.
