January, the fourth month in the county's fiscal year, generated collections of $9.88 million which is 9% above collections in January 2004. "The resort tax continued its record-setting trend," says comptroller Martha O. Haynie. "The nearly $9.9 million collected in January represents the highest amount ever collected for the month of January."
Cumulative collections totaled $37.5 million. If that amount is collected in each of the next three four-month periods, the $112.5-million level would be attained, Haynie's office confirms. Haynie had budgeted $32.65 million for the October-January period--14.8% under the actual collected amount. For January, Haynie's staff projected tax revenue of $8.74 million--13% under the $9.88 million collected.
