ORLANDO-New to the commercial real estate business when she joined the local office of Trammell Crow Co. right out of Florida State University in November 2003, Genny Spies today has placed a new trinket on her trophy mantle.

The 300-member Central Florida Commercial Real Estate Society has selected Spies for the annual Hallmark Rookie of the Year Award which goes to a professional active in the industry for less than two years. Spies was picked for her management of one million sf of retail throughout the metro area. She completed 24 transactions through the end of 2004.

Among her accomplishments was bringing the 141,000-sf Crossroads Shopping Center at Lake Buena Vista on Interstate 4 and State Road 535 across from Walt Disney World to 100% occupancy; positioning Plantation Grove Shopping Center on Maguire Road in suburban Ocoee to reach 100% occupancy by May; and maintaining occupancy rates above 95% for centers operated by GE Real Estate and several local owners, says Paul Ellis, a Trammell Crow principal and North Florida area director.

"[Spies] is strongly focused on maximizing shopping center values by increasing occupancy and rentals above current market conditions while reducing out-of-pocket expenses for landlords," says Ellis.

Spies is active in the International Council of Shopping Centers and a board member of ICSC Next Generation; board member for Retailer One-on-One; and a founding member of the CROW-mmunity Crusaders, TCC's community outreach organization.
