A spokesperson for Unilever United States Inc. says the building sale will generate additional capital for growth and will be used to further strengthen its business. The spokesperson says "the move is consistent with Unilever's business objectives, as we prefer to lease rather than own office buildings, and Greenwich is the only large office building currently owned in North America." Other Unilever office buildings that are leased include 700 and 800 Sylvan in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, a number of locations in Trumbull, CT, as well as in Chicago, Toronto and elsewhere.

Cushman & Wakefield executive director Jay Hruska will be marketing the building. He says that the property will likely go out to bid in the near future. "We would expect there will be very high demand."

Several years ago Unilever had considered relocating its Greenwich Home & Personal Care headquarters operations to Trumbull. However, the firm later backed off the plan. Unilever employs approximately 400 workers at its Greenwich property.
