The Montage Hotel & Public Gardens had won approvals from the Beverly Hills City Council and the planning commission in mid-2004, but it was forced into a citywide election by rival hotels. The project will be located north of Wilshire Boulevard, between Beverly and Canon, within walking distance of Beverly Hills' best-known shops and restaurants. The property will feature amenities including a full-service spa, a signature restaurant and rooftop pool.
Alan Fuerstman, founder and CEO of Montage Hotels & Resorts, notes that the new hotel will complement the company's flagship property, the Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach, which opened two years ago.
The Athens Group, headquartered in Phoenix, has been involved with Montage Hotel & Public Gardens since its inception. The Athens Group also has created a number of the country's premier hotels including Four Seasons at Hualalai Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii, the Ritz-Carlton at Half Moon Bay Resort, as well as other luxury projects in Arizona, Colorado and California--including Montage Resort & Spa Laguna Beach. Montage Hotels & Resorts was founded in 2002 by Fuerstman. The company recently acquired Aliso Creek Inn and Golf Course, which occupies approximately 80 acres near Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach.
