HARTSDALE, NY-Michael's Stores has signed a lease deal totaling 18,000 sf at 333 North Central Ave. here. The arts-and-crafts retailer will be taking over the space vacated by Kids 'R' Us. Michael's Stores expects to open its new Michael's location in June.
William B. Hesse, president of Aries, Deitch & Endelson of Hartsdale, represented the building owner Jade Realty, while Colleen Quinn of Quinn Commercial Services of Nanuet represented Michael's. The lease negotiations began in January 2004 and were completed after what Hesse termed were "a number of stops and starts." A Michael's representative says the company received "many requests" to open a store on Central Avenue.
Headquartered in Irving, TX, Michael's already has a number of locations in the northern suburbs of New York City, including stores in Brewster, Central Valley and Poughkeepsie, as well as Stamford, CT. As of March 14, the company owned 847 Michael's in 48 states and in Canada, 165 Aaron Brothers stores, eight Recollections stores and four Star Wholesale operations.
