English Harbour New Ventures, a St. John's, Antigua-based company whose primary business is English Harbour.com, an online gaming organization with more than 3.5 million customers worldwide, says it plans to bid for the naming rights for much of the sports complex. Company officials say they contacted the Giants last month about buying the naming rights for the proposed new $700 million stadium for the team, but never heard back from team officials. The Giants have long resisted the temptation of taking their own name off the existing Giants Stadium, which would be torn down to make way for the new one.

Since then, of course, negotiations between the NJSEA and the Giants for the new stadium have broken down. As reported by GlobeSt.com, the issues range from how much the Giants will pay in taxes, to whether or not the Meadowlands Xanadu retail, entertainment and office complex, proposed for the adjacent Continental Airlines Arena site, will be open on Sundays when the Giants play at home. The ongoing negotiations had been tense for weeks.

But English Harbour officials feel their offer to buy the naming rights for the entire complex could be the fuel to jumpstart the stadium project by providing the money to close the gap between the NJSEA, a state agency, and the Giants.

"Knowing that the NJSEA publicly announced its intention to offer a naming package on the entire Meadowlands complex, we now intend to make a bid for naming rights on the proposed stadium and other Meadowlands properties," says Paul Sudolski, president of English Harbour.com. "Our intention to buy the naming rights of the new stadium have been made clear to the Giants, but now we feel that it's time to reach out to the state.

"With the two sides at a standstill after five months of negotiations, this additional revenue stream could not only defray construction costs the Giants are paying, but would also alleviate any burdens put on taxpayers for this project," Sudolski continues.

English Harbour.com execs say they're prepared to travel to New Jersey to meet with team and state officials, including Acting Gov. Dick Codey, to discuss their proposal further.
