63,000-SF Giant Store Moving Into Southwest DC

WASHINGTON, DC-A new Giant Food grocery store and pharmacy is on its way to a southeast neighborhood designated for revitalization. A joint venture will build the 63,000-sf store--which will be part of a larger 110,000-sf retail destination--and then lease it to Giant.

"This is a major step towards economic revitalization for Southeast DC," says Michael Stevens, president and CEO of the Washington, DC Marketing Center, a public/private partnership for economic development in the District. "The new Giant Food store will demonstrate the buying power of Ward 8 residents and will drive additional retail to the area."

Construction is on schedule to begin in the spring of next year. Giant will lease the space from the JV.
