The family-run business is currently headquartered at Staples Plaza in Yorktown Heights, where it leases a 95,000-sf warehouse and 11,000-sf of office/showroom space. The company also operates showrooms in Scarsdale and Stamford, CT.
Austin Corporate Properties Inc. of Rye Brook, NY brokered the sale. Once the renovations to the Somers property are completed in about 18 months, the company will move out of its warehouse and relocate those operations to Somers. However, Best Plumbing , which four years ago sold the 210,000-sf Staples Plaza complex to Celestial Newmark Associates, will retain its existing leased showroom space at Staples Plaza.
Weiner says that the firm will establish a showroom and distribution center at its new Somers location as well. The 35-acre property, which includes a pond, is bordered by the New Croton Reservoir and is across the street from John F. Kennedy High School. He notes that the firm decided to acquire the Somers property because it had simply outgrown its Yorktown Heights space. He adds that Best Plumbing will be looking to hire additional workers in the near future. The company, which began operations in 1960, currently employs 110 and will look to open new facilities in the tri-state area in the future.
Austin Corporate Properties also reports that it has leased 7,500 sf of space at 90 South Ridge St. in Rye Brook to the White Plains Hospital Center for its Home Care Department. About a year ago, the hospital relocated its Women's Imaging Center to 11,000 sf of space at the building, which is owned by Ridge Bowman LLC, a partnership of local real estate investors Bonnie and Leon Silverman. Carl Austin, a principal of Austin Corporate Properties, represented White Plains Hospital in the transactions.
