Symphony House,

Locally based developer Carl Dranoff says added amenities along with the rising cost of steel and concrete pushed the originally estimated construction cost from $92 million to more than $126 million. Residential units range from 930 sf for a one-bedroom to a 4,663-sf for a five-bedroom penthouse. There is a maximum of nine units to a floor; nearly all units have balconies or outdoor terraces and minimum ceiling heights of nine feet. Condo prices range from $600,000 to $4 million.

The eighth floor has a 60-foot indoor lap pool, hot tub, men's and women's sauna, steam and massage rooms. Other amenities include three dining rooms and a catering kitchen; a library/clubroom with fireplace, baby grand piano and big screen TV; private wine lockers, and a 150-foot sundeck and adjoining pool, plus a fitness center.

Gov. Ed Rendell, on hand for the groundbreaking, said the building was the "fulfillment of a dream" he had of turning South Broad into a street of restaurants, residences and performing arts venues when he became mayor of the city in 1992. While numerous Center City buildings are undergoing conversion to condos, Symphony House is the only Downtown condo tower currently under construction.
