The BioSquare complex, which will cost $600 million to complete, will contain six buildings with 1.9 million sf of laboratory, classroom and office space along with parking for nearly 2,500 cars. The recently completed Life Science and Engineering Building, created by Cannon Design of Boston, features an exterior of red brick and pre-cast concrete with stainless steel accents and expansive views of the Charles River and Fenway Park.
A $55 million research building, developed by Spaulding & Slye Colliers International, is currently under construction as part of the complex. The property will be occupied by Boston University and the Boston University Medical Center when construction is completed in the next few months.
Also on tap are at least two student residences that will add 1,423 beds to the campus. Since the 1970s, BU has grown from about 50 acres and five million sf of building space to 132 acres with almost 14 million sf.
