NEW BRIGHTON, MN-Kraus-Anderson Realty Co. recently won approval from the city to tear down a shopping mall called Brighton Village and replacing it with a half-dozen freestanding buildings.
The developer is building 58,000 sf of retail and service space--"all on one level, and all new buildings," says David Black, a development official with the city of New Brighton. The size in square footage of the new development is about the same size as the one that is being torn down. Much of the mall is vacant; tenants began to leave after Lunds grocery store closed its doors six years ago.
The 9-acre site is located off Interstate 694 at the intersection of Silver Lake Road and Palmer Drive. Black adds that there will be no change to the US Bank branch, Champps restaurant and Sinclair gas station buildings on the site. The only tenant left in the center, Synders Drug Store, will relocate to its own new building on the site. Kraus-Anderson plans to complete the development in about a year or so.
