Bounded by a six-acre park and the Constance Wharf Marina, the new hotel brings to Downtown 150 guestrooms, as well as the 14,000 sf of meeting space provided by the conference center. The property also features a fitness center, business center, swimming pool and spa, and a restaurant and bar. "This hotel is the cornerstone in our city's renaissance," Mayor Bobby Ralph notes. "Already, we are beginning to see the benefits as the city is responding quite favorably to how it is positively impacting our Downtown area."
Funding for the development was a public/private operation. Two years ago, the city issued more than $18 million in bonds in order to contribute $13 million to the venture. The hotel property is expected to be flanked by the 600-seat Suffolk Cultural Arts Center--which will emerge from the redevelopment of the Suffolk High School building--and the redeveloped historic Professional Building on Main Street.
