The CMC, as the three-building complex is known, houses showrooms representing thousands of fashion and accessories lines including men's, women's and children's. For years, the property was known as CalMart, but it was renamed California Market Center after it added 240,000 sf of gift and home furnishings showrooms to the fashion space in 2003.
A CMC announcement on the Jamison deal quotes John Kim, the CMC's new general manager, saying that Jamison views the property as a long-term investment and plans to continue with its yearly roster of markets and trade shows, including an apparel market, June 10-14 and the Los Angeles Gift & Home Market, July 19-26, held in cooperation with the California Gift Show.
London-based DMG World Media of Britain purchased what it called "a significant share" of the California Market Center from the Hertz Group in 2003. Hertz, in turn, acquired the property from New York City-based Equitable Life Assurance Society of America for about $90 million in 2001.
