GMH will be working with the Benham Cos., an Oklahoma City-based architectural and engineering firm, and Dallas-based Centex Corp., the largest homebuilder in the nation on the project. The Army has given GMH a 50-year contract in which the firm will earn management, construction/renovation and development fees, along with equity returns on its invested capital, according to a prepared statement from GMH.
"The family housing assets are typically leveraged with private investment to accomplish housing construction and renovation goals faster and at a lower cost than military construction," says Bruce Robinson, president of GMH's military housing division.
GMH is acting as the Army's private sector partner for the design, development, construction, renovation and management of family military housing at Fort Gordon. Apartments, single-family residences and townhomes are expected to comprise the mix of the military housing.
