"We strongly believe this restructuring plan is in the best interests of UAW members at Visteon, and we are gratified by their overwhelming vote in favor of the plan," UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said in a statement.
Visteon and former parent company Ford announced the restructuring plan last month, under which Ford would take back 24 plants and other facilities in the United States and Mexico. Visteon and Ford expect to sign a final agreement by Aug. 1.
Under the plan, Visteon would spin off 13 of the 15 facilities to Ford, which would put them in a holding company and try to sell them. Two of the 15 plants, one each in More than 17,000 UAW members work at the 15 plants. The two companies have been in talks since September to hammer out a deal that would allow Visteon to improve efficiency while still meeting its parts supply obligations to Ford.
