Jeff Christmann, a West Texas native, has settled into the role of vice president of health care for the Texas division of the St. Louis-based McCarthy. Richard Buckner was brought on board as a senior preconstruction manager for the healthcare group. Christmann's spent the past 14 years as a vice president with GE Johnson Construction Co. in Denver and Buckner just wound up an 11-year stint with the Dallas-based Centex Construction Group Inc.'s Nashville operation.
Christmann, tasked with business development and operations, tells GlobeSt.com that he's hoping to add "two or three" jobs per year to the development docket. In the past five years at GE Johnson, he helped to bring $500 million of healthcare projects out of the ground. "With health care growing in the Texas market, McCarthy felt they needed to add," he says.
While scouting for new business, the two men will be overseeing a $20-million-plus project to add an 80,000-sf lab to UT's medical research campus. Ground is scheduled to break in May 2006. Meanwhile, they're also tasked with a $2.2-million interior renovation of 14,000 sf of outpatient services space at Knapp Medical Center. The project will get underway this month and deliver in February 2006. "We are chasing," Christmann emphasizes. "There is a lot of work out there right now."
