In this new role, Forman will develop a plan to identify potential areas in southeast Michigan where Karmanos might be able to expand and serve. The Institute said its next round of clinical expansion would be similar to the construction of the Lawrence & Idell Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center in Farmington Hills-a $6.2 million, 18,500-sf outpatient cancer treatment facility conceived by Forman. The Weisberg Center was completed in 2001.
"I'm excited to again have the opportunity to grow the reach of the Karmanos Cancer Institute," said Forman. "I learned so much when we built the Weisberg Center with its patient-friendly atmosphere. We'll continue to use that model as we further expand our services across metro Detroit."
Forman will also facilitate partnerships with community hospitals throughout Michigan and northern Ohio. Forman, who is also the E. Jan Hartmann professor of radiation oncology at Wayne State University, said he will continue to treat patients, along with his added role.
