RIVERDALE, NJ-Garden Commercial Properties has started construction of Riverdale Crossing, a 260,000-sf, two-story shopping complex here. The center is expected to open in about a year."This area of Morris County is emerging as a new retail destination," says Scott Loventhal, director of development for the Short Hills-based Garden Commercial Properties. "Riverdale Crossing will further broaden the shopping experience for residents of this region by adding nationally recognized retail giants to the area."Wal-Mart has signed on to anchor the power center, and will occupy a total of some 142,000 sf. Other tenants that have committed to the center, which will have a total of 100,000 sf of in-line space, include Linens 'n Things and Sports Authority, according to Loventhal. Chili's and Pier One Imports will be on pad sites within the center.

Riverdale Crossing, which will have parking for some 1,200 cars, is located on Route 23 North. The site is adjacent to that route's intersection with Interstate 287.
