The new state-of-the-art building would serve as the home to a housing center, global center, research center, and industry center. Plans are to start construction next April, although it could start sooner if fundraising goes well, Levine tells GlobeSt.com.

The new building would be constructed south of East Evans Avenue and west of University Boulevard, adjacent to Buchtel Tower. More than 70 conferences will be hosted in the new building annually. It also will provide classroom, laboratory and lounge space that is much needed, he says. Currently, the real estate school, which is part of the Daniels College of Business, is extremely over-crowded, he says.

The school has about 400 undergraduates, graduate and executive students, he says. Founded in 1938, it is the oldest and largest real estate school in the nation that is part of a business school, Levine says. He says there may be some schools that are part of architectural or construction programs or other schools that are older and larger, he says.

The school is named after the late Franklin Burns, a major real estate investor and developer in the metro area. His widow, Joy Burns, is chairwoman of the University of Denver's board of trustees. She says the new building is just what Levine needs to take the real estate school to the next level. She says she plans to make a personal contribution to the fund to construct the building.
