The 11-acre center features shops and restaurants in a park-like setting that features two man-made lakes, each with a 30-foot geyser fountain, along with a sandy beach area separated by the lake by a low wall. In the winter, a portion of the lake will be transformed into an outdoor ice skating rink.

Tenants at the center include California Pizza Kitchen, Claim Jumper, P.F.Changs China Bistro, Sushi Ko, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Ben & Jerry's, Polachek's Jewelers, Maison d'Optique, Brighton Collectibles, Perlei, Sophea Parros, White House/Black Market, and Kalologie Skincare.

The development was dDesigned by Caruso SVP and architect Dave Williams in conjunction with Perkowitz + Ruth. It includes a permanent performance stage that will be the site of a variety of entertainment and community events.

The Lakes is the third Caruso project to open in the Thousand Oaks area. The others are the Promenade at Westlake, which opened in November 1996 and the Village at Moorpark, which opened in April 1996.
