LONDON-ProLogis, in a joint venture with Dartford Council, has started work on a 264-acre, mixed-use project at North Dartford, east of London. The project, to be known as "the Bridge," will comprise 1.5 million sf of offices, distribution facilities, and a technology and science park. There will also be 1,500 homes, a local retail center and a school.
The shed specialist will develop the infrastructure for the project, the industrial facilities and some design and build units. ProLogis has already pre-signed a British quoted company for a 670,000-sf industrial development. It has also presold 48 acres of land on the site to housebuilder George Wimpey PLC to construct the homes, retail center and school.
"This project, the first of its kind to be delivered in the Thames Gateway, will quickly become the benchmark of quality for these types of projects," says Alan Curtis, managing director of ProLogis Developments Ltd.
Dartford is central to government plans to regenerate Thames Gateway. The site is located south of the Thames River and adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, at Junction 1A of the M25 London Orbital Motorway.
"The Bridge will offer excellent public transportation, local employment, a new school, a retail center, a nature reserve and a wildlife park," adds David Huggett, managing director, George Wimpey, South London.
Jones Lang LaSalle and Holley Blake are advising Dartford Borough Council and ProLogis Developments, Ltd.
