The new facility will combine the group's operations in Union, NJ, where it's based, and Cherry Hill, NJ. It will house space for special events, a volunteer training and development center, staff offices and other facilities.

"The gift of this land is the most significant step to date in our realizing the dream of building a truly magical facility for the children of New Jersey," says Paul Huegel, president and CEO of the organization. "When children first see it, they will know that this is a place built for them."

The seven-acre site is also within a larger tract of land along Route 33 in southern Middlesex County earmarked for mixed-use development by local officials. Proposals call for a new minor league baseball park that would be operated by Steve Kalafer, chairman of the Somerset Patriots minor league team in Bridgewater, NJ, along with a shopping center, a residential component, a park-and-ride lot and open space. A task force appointed by Mayor Richard Pucci is currently studying the proposals.
