HOLLYWOOD, CA-Metro Modern Developers of Woodland Hills began construction Thursday on a 54-unit condominium project called the Hollywood. The development site is at 6735 Yucca St., within walking distance of the Hollywood & Highland retail and entertainment complex as well as the Red Line subway station.Units at the Hollywood will range from approximately 1,200 sf to 2,500 sf, according to Gabriel Tauber, managing partner of Metro Modern Developers, a private partnership of four principals with backgrounds in real estate development and finance. Designed by Stephen Kanner of Los Angeles-based Kanner Architects, the building will feature units with 18-foot ceiling heights, glass walls, hardwood and stone floors, stainless steel appliances, large master suites, fireplaces, private balconies, dens and mezzanines and high-speed Internet service. The Hollywood will take shape on a site that formerly was occupied by a restaurant that has been shuttered for some time. The developers describe the project as the first "significant" multifamily development in Hollywood in years, saying it is the first large-scale community to be built in the area in many years, other than single-family homes. Metro Modern expects to begin sales of the units in October and to complete the project in late 2006. Amenities will include controlled access, two levels of subterranean parking, a resort-style pool, a gym and a sports lounge. The new condominium building will be one of the few new condo projects being built from the ground up in the L.A. area, although many apartment building throughout the region are being converted to condos. The Hollywood reflects Metro Modern's focus on Hollywood revitalization projects, the company says, pointing out that the new condominium development will be able to capitalize on much that has been developed in recent years: the Hollywood & Highland complex, the nearby Kodak Theatre, which is home to the Academy Awards and a host of restaurants and nightclubs in the area.
