Clare Cuthbert, who also has held senior merchandising positions at Bloomingdale's, Bergdorf Goodman and Bendels, was named to the position Friday. As president of the company's Accessory Division, Cuthbert will be responsible for developing strategy and overseeing management of the firm's accessories business.
"With the considerable experience Clare has to offer, we look forward to the future development and success of our accessories business and welcome her to Jones Apparel Group," Rhonda Brown, president and chief executive officer for the company's Footwear, Accessories and Retail Group, said in a statement. Cuthbert will report directly to Brown in her new role. The company didn't say whether Cuthbert would replace anyone.
The Fortune 500 company designs and markets a broad array of products, footwear and accessories and counts among its brands Jones New York, Evan-Picone, Norton McNaughton, Gloria Vanderbilt, Erika, l.e.i., Energie and Bandolino. It also markets apparel under the Polo Jeans Co. brand, costume jewelry under the Tommy Hilfiger brand and the Givenchy brand and footwear under the Dockers Women brand. Owner of footwear companies Nine West and Mawell Shoe, which design the Easy Spirit, Enzo Angiolini, and Joan & David brands, Jones Apparel Group also operates the upscale Barneys New York chain, which it acquired late last year.
Jones currently owns and operates more than 1,000 retail and outlet stores and has warehouses or offices in in Canada, Mexico, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, Delaware, North Carolina and Virginia.
