HOUSTON-As part of a long-term expansion plan throughout the Greater Houston metro, Batteries Plus LLC plans to open its third local location, signing an 1,860-sf, five-year lease in Meyerland Court, at an average rate of $21 per sf.

The newest Batteries Plus branch will open within 60 days at 4774 Beechnut St., a property owned by Kagan Realty of Houston and leased by its in-house broker, Brenda Hensen. "They launched their first store in Houston about two and a half years ago," says Kevin Sims, a retail broker with NAI Houston, which is working with Batteries Plus on its Houston expansion. "The real estate plan we have in place is to open two stores per year, minimum, with the maximum being 12 stores."

Batteries Plus, headquartered in Green Bay, WI, services the replacement battery market, by selling standard and specialty batteries for everything from toys to electronic devices. Batteries Plus also works with larger companies to develop industrial-strength batteries for various industries as well.

Sims tells GlobeSt.com that the preferred space for a Batteries Plus store is approximately 1,500 sf to 2,500 sf, "with 1,800 sf the sweet spot," he says. The company is seeking areas near upper-income families that might use batteries for toys and electronic devices. "The preference here is to be near major anchors such as a Home Depot, a Lowe's, Best Buy or Circuit City, as we share the same customer base," he adds.
