ASBURY PARK, NJ-A day-long conference set for Tuesday, Oct. 11 will explore the various issues involving retail development through public/private partnerships. The event, which will be held at the Berkeley Carteret Hotel here, is part of a national program focusing on urban retail development, sponsored by the International Council of Shopping Centers of New York. The New Jersey Alliance program is being co-sponsored by the International Economic Development Council and a number of local associations and government agencies.Key speakers, according to Ted Zangari of the Sills Cummis Law firm of Newark and the event's co-chair, will include Rep. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and Christopher Christie, US Attorney for New Jersey. Also on the slate is Mayor Kevin G. Sanders of this oceanfront city, which itself is undergoing a major mixed-use redevelopment, including a substantial retail component.General sessions will include "Strange Things Happened on the Way to Redeveloping Edgetown, New Jersey," moderated by Adam Zellner, executive director of the New Jersey Highlands Commission. His agency oversees a sizeable region in northwestern New Jersey, which provides much of the state's drinking water supply, which has been put under tight development constraints. A roster of more than two dozen panelists, divided into three separate presentations, includes mayors, state government officials, private sector developers, attorneys, planners and consultants.Additional sessions will include a government relations update by ICSC, and a development opportunities forum. A retailer showcase is also on the program.
