John Frew, WFMG co-owner, notes he has known Johnson for many years and says he will be able to "achieve our goals of booking, selling and promoting the Broomfield Events Center." Tim Wines, the other WFMG co-owner says that Johnson has the "skill sets" needed to make the center a great success.
Johnson says Wiens and Frew have a "great vision" for the center that will provide a "first-class entertainment experience." Before PPIR, Johnson led the public relations division of Denver-based GBSM. While there, his clients include Ascent Entertainment, which at the time owned the Pepsi Center in Denver; the Colorado Avalanche; and the Atlanta Arena for Turner Sports.
The Broomfield Events Center will be developed on the south side of US 36 between West 112th and 120th avenues. The 180,000-sf center will include 6,000 seats, 25 suites, 900 club seats and a separate basketball practice facility. The center will host more than 130 events a year, including concerts, trade shows, rodeos and sporting events. The center will be an anchor for the 215-acre, mixed-use development by Wiens called Arista.
