BOSTON-Construction has begun on a $9-million, 22,000-sf terminal at Boston's Logan International Airport. The site will serve as the gateway to the city for charter services and private planes.

The two-story terminal, which is being constructed for Signature Flight Support by Leopardo Construction, will be comprised of a 10,000 sf first-floor terminal, a 7,000-sf second floor for management and administrative offices and 5,000 sf of ground support equipment shops. Mike LeMire, aviation group project executive for Leopardo, tells GlobeSt.com that the terminal, which is expected to be completed in June, will be built on the former Delta fuel farm site on Prescott Avenue. The land is leased for the next 10 years by Signature and the Massachusetts Port Authority.

A terminal that already serves private and charter plane passengers will be demolished once the new terminal is completed, LeMire says. The terminal will feature private conference rooms, granite flooring and will incorporate audio and visual technologies including WiFi Internet access and remote plasma computer connections along with security and baggage checkpoints.
